I remember when I first heard about Five Guys and saw pictures of their amazing burgers, I wished that their restaurant was halal. I quickly gave them a ring and said “hi, just wondering if your meat is halal?” Unfortunately the person who took my call didn’t even know what halal was, and kept mistaking “halal” for “hello”. After repeatedly trying to pronounce halal in the most perfect way I could, and with his response repeatedly being “hello”, I knew that Five Guys in London was not halal *sigh*. Dubai, on the other hand has recently opened a Five Guys, and when I went this summer… you can guess which burger joint I decided to visit first!
What I love about Five Guys is that you can build your own burger. You start off with a juicy double patty (either with cheese or without) and then have the choice of adding up to 15 toppings (all of which are free)! Naturally, I was tempted to go for all 15 but I decided to keep things a bit simpler for burger comparison purposes.
Cheeseburger (Dhs 40)
I started off with gooey, melted cheese sandwiched between two fresh patties. For toppings I decided on ketchup, mayo, onions, lettuce and jalapenos. I feel that this burger is a cross between a fast food burger and a gourmet burger. The meat is loosely packed which I love, as this means the burger can have some crispy edges as well as gaps where all the succulent burger juices are free to ooze out.
The bun is perfectly soft and is able to withstand all the sauces. It is not messy to eat either, so you can still look neat while you gobble it all up!
Overall, it is one of my new favourite burgers, but the flavour is not quite perfect. I’ve had better at places like Shake Shack and a few more burger joints, which I shall be reviewing soon (keep your eyes open for those)! Price-wise, it is similar to other top burger joints in Dubai.
Milkshakes (Dhs 25)
We decided on vanilla and salted caramel milkshakes. I feel that they need to perfect the salted caramel one by giving it a slightly more distinct taste. Aside from this, both milkshakes were delicious. The vanilla one was amazing. Out of all the burger joints I have been to, Five Guys definitely provided the best milkshake!
Fries (15 Dhs)
These were rustic fries (which I loveeee). They had the skins left on and were crispy, salty and delicious. They also offer cajun fries for those of you who want more flavour!
