Last weekend my parents and I had made a reservation for brunch at NAC to celebrate my mum’s birthday! Unfortunately due to an accident on the road we got stuck in traffic and sadly we missed our booking *sigh*. As we walked back to our car, I spotted a cute little cafe with a halal sign in the window! Bingo! It was called Popina and I remembered I had recently seen their account on Instagram. The food looked great and we decided to try it!
As you walk in, you are presented with a beautiful display of freshly made cakes, quiches and pastries such as borek. It all looked delicious! We were super hungry so we all ordered eggs! Here’s what we had…
HOT CHOCOLATE (£4)
I opted for a hot chocolate to drink. It was rich and creamy but not too sickening!
I opted for fried eggs with cheese on toast. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the cheesy sourdough was not too hard (as it often can be), and the spicy seasoning was great. I also added beef bacon to my meal which was tasty, flavoursome and made my meal extra delicious.
FRIED EGGS AND MELTED CHEESE ON SOURDOUGH TOAST (£7) WITH ADDED SAUSAGES (£4)
My parents opted for the same as me but with sausages instead of beef bacon. The sausages were of good quality but I would have liked them to pack in more flavour.
CONCLUSION
Overall I thought the meal was great and we left feeling satisfied and full! I do think it was a little pricey for what it was, but I guess that’s expected as it was located in Mayfair! It’s somewhere I would definitely return to if I was passing by and I think it would be a great place to visit for a quick bite. I had my eye on their pretty cakes!
Note: Not all the food at Popina is halal, but halal items are cooked and prepared separately and clearly marked on the menu.
