Autumn is my favourite season! It’s time to wrap up in snuggly knitwear, drink hot chocolate with melty marshmallows, step on crunchy leaves and go out for warm weekend brunches. Can’t decide where to eat this weekend? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered …
You may remember I recently reviewed Boondocks not so long ago! Having indulged in their delicious burgers, you can only imagine how excited I was when they introduced a new brunch menu just last week. I gathered some brunch buddies and off we went!
FRESH LEMONADE (£2.95)
We ordered house lemonade which was delicious! Perfect sweet/sour balance.
THE HARDEES (£7.50)
How eggcelent does this look? It was kind of like a mini beef burger patty doused in melted cheese on a buttermilk biscuit. It was topped with a poached egg which unfortunately was not perfect as the yolk wasn’t that runny. Having said this, it tasted great! I loved that the sausages weren’t fatty or processed and didn’t leave me feeling gross. It was fresh, flavoursome and really delicious.
THE BOJANGLES (£8.75)
This was really similar to the above with a piece of chicken instead of beef and the addition of hot sauce. I totally thought I’d be able to handle the heat but it was way too spicy for me to enjoy so be warned! The buttermilk chicken was great and I would opt for this again (without the hot sauce)! The buttermilk biscuits were warm and soft and helped take the pain away from my burning tongue!
CHICKEN AND WAFFLES (£12.75)
This is part of Boondocks’ normal menu and is something I’ve previously had at Stax (their sister restaurant). Despite the waffle being a little soggy under the chicken, we all really enjoyed it and were literally fighting over the last piece. We were tempted to order another one but then our pancakes arrived ….
CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES (£7.00)
Oh just look at this fluffy stack of happiness. These were very good! They were sweet, light and airy just like pancakes should be! Served with whipped cream and dotted with chocolate chips they are just the right amount to keep you satisfied without feeling sick.
It would have been nice to provide some syrups/ sauces! We made do with some leftover maple syrup from our chicken and waffles
WAFFLE WITH BUTTERSCOTCH AND FUDGE SAUCE (£6.00)
Not feeling pancakes? Opt for waffles instead! The butterscotch waffle was super rich and is definitely something to share! I could feel my food baby at this point but I’m an eat now regret later kind of girl
BANANA CARAMEL PECAN WAFFLE (£7.00)
Overall the bill amounted to around £12pp. On my first trip to Boondocks I rated their service quite leniently as I went on opening night. Unfortunately their service is still not amazing with waiters making mistakes with our orders. Aside from this, we had a great (not amazing) meal and it’s definitely somewhere I would return to! Not that much to be sad about other than the fact that I forgot to order some maple glazed beef bacon as a aside. Next time 😉
