Towards the end of summer I was lucky enough to go on an incredible trip all the way to Hong Kong! My brother moved to China on an exchange student programme and in true Asian family style, we all went to drop him off (and have a cool holiday)! The city was amazing and has some great halal food options.
Here’s my halal food guide to Hong Kong!
1. MA’S RESTAURANT
Ma’s Restaurant should be near the top of your list! The food is absolutely delicious, the portion sizes are good and the staff are really friendly.
I really enjoyed the beef stir fry, goulash and lamb rolls!
A lot of the food served is typical of the Uyghur people in China and I’d highly recommend it!
2. ISLAMIC CENTRE CANTEEN
If you’re in the mood for a dim sum fix then head down to the Islamic Centre Canteen! Sadly, I arrived too late and was told that dim sum is only served until 3pm. Be aware of this when planning your trip!
I tried some beef fried noodles instead which were okay.
3. WAI KEE
Wai Kee was near the top of my list but unfortunately I was unable to visit! It’s famous for its roast duck which is meant to be amazing.

4. ISLAM FOOD
The menu at Islam Food is similar to the one at Ma’s Restaurant. Come here for goulash, meat pancakes and dumplings!

5. MAMMY PANCAKE
A trip to Hong Kong would be incomplete without their famous bubble waffles! I tried a chocolate chip one from Mammy Pancake and it was great.
What was even better was the “Hong Kong waffle”. It was super fluffy and made with peanut butter and condensed milk… you have to try it!
6. SOFT SERVE
Soft serve is extremely popular in Hong Kong!? I tried the tiramisu flavour from Sweet Monster and it was delicious. Even the cone had layers of tiramisu inside!
7. BUBBLE TEA
If you’re a bubble tea fan then make sure you try the brown sugar deerioca drink from The Alley. The Alley is pretty famous and has several outlets across Asia.
8. POPEYES
Finally, just before you leave don’t forget to try the fried chicken from Popeyes at HK airport! 😉
That’s a wrap! I hope you found this food guide useful and let me know if you try anything out!
