HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
The 1st January 2019 marks the beginning of a brand new year and also MBFHB’s 4th birthday! Thank you SO much for all of your support so far… it means the world to me and I can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for this year!
In MBFHB tradition, I decided to round up the year with a post all about some of the incredible things I ate in 2018…
1) STEAK AT ZELMAN
If you’re a steak lover I’d highly recommend you visit Zelman. The Harvey Nichols branch is halal and the food is amazing! My favourite is the picanha cooked medium rare with garlic butter, triple cooked fries and sriracha mayo!
2) BRISKET BUN AT LONDON SMOKEHOUSE
Halal smoked meat is a rarity in London but we can all thank London Smokehouse for changing up the halal food scene and bringing us their amazing brisket buns. Get it with all the toppings and thank me later! 😉 I also love their beef short ribs!
3) PASTRIES AT JUNO
Towards the end of 2018 I made a quick trip to Copenhagen and was lucky enough to try some incredible pastries from Juno. I’m struggling to pick just one favourite so here’s 3 (ha) – the saffron bun, cardamom bun and pistachio pastry!
4) DAAL ARANCINI AT FARZI CAFE
Farzi Cafe opened up very recently and I visited just a couple of days ago. It was an impressive restaurant that adds a modern twist to classic Indian dishes. One of my favourites was the deep fried, cheesy daal arancini. I can’t wait to revisit this restaurant this year to try more dishes.
5) BRUNCH AT THE GREAT CHASE
If you follow me closely on Instagram you’ll know that I’ve visited The Great Chase LOADS! Their new brunch menu was released a couple of months ago and I fell in love with it. I surprisingly loved the avocado toast (which is not as basic as you’d think). It’s served with red pepper jam, roasted squash and almonds… and it’s excellent!
6) STEAK AT NUSRET
A trip to Dubai would not be complete without visiting Salt Bae’s restaurant. The food and dining experience was truly amazing! I loved the nurse special – thinly sliced steak drowned in butter and served with bread.
7) PANCAKES AT NAC
If you’re looking for a fancy brunch spot hit up NAC for their dulce de leche pancakes.
8) KEBABS AT ETLES
Etles brought the Uyghur cuisine all the way from China to London. The food is unique and delicious. I loved the kebabs, dumplings and da pan ji (big plate chicken).
9) LOTUS CAKE AT PARKERS
Dubai is home to all things lotus! One of the best desserts I had in 2018 was this lotus “pull me” milk cake from By Parkers. It’s layered with ice cream, lotus biscuits and thick, creamy lotus sauce!
10) OREO FRENCH TOAST
Of course I had to include one of my own recipes in this list! 😉 I loved making this delicious Oreo french toast and decorating it with edible flowers! It’s the perfect treat for brunch! Find the recipe here.
2018 was truly amazing and I can’t wait for what’s in store for 2019! One thing’s for sure… it’s going to be filled with lots and lots of delicious food!
Get ready for a new big fat halal food adventure!
Love,
Ayesha x
