I don’t know about you, but during Ramadan I tend to overeat at iftar. I say I will have one samosa and then my lack of self control takes over and before you know it I’ve had five. I feel so full, I have a food baby, I say I won’t do it again but the cycle just repeats and by the end of Ramadan I’ve put on a zillion pounds! Sound familiar? Well, this year I actually set a clear goal not to overeat and I was surprisingly pretty successful! Yes, there were some blips here and there, but generally I was pretty good. Today I’m going to tell you about one of those blips… a day when I could not stop eating because my meal was THAT good!
Let me introduce you to the food from London Smokehouse…
London Smokehouse is a company owned by the amazing couple Meriam and Awaes who specialise in smoked meat. Be it brisket, whole lamb, turkey, tender chicken or even juicy ribs… they have it and they smoke it! They often pop up in different locations so keep an eye out, but they can also deliver a great meal right to your door and even cater for events! This Ramadan, they sent me food for iftar and it was amazing! Take a look…
Awaes turned up to my door with an actual crate of food!! He generously provided me with brisket, a whole chicken, buns, condiments and even an information sheet on how to cut the brisket so we could make the perfect sandwich!
The brisket of course, was the highlight of the meal for me! It is cooked low and slow for around 12-16 hours until it’s juicy, tender and pulls apart with minimal resistance.
It had a delicious peppery crust/bark, a nice amount of fat and when cutting into it, the slices showed a smoke ring. PERFECT! The brisket topped with all the condiments and sandwiched in the soft, pillowy buns made for a really delicious meal. I particularly loved the bbq sauce so make sure you try that!
I’m pretty sure you can guess what I “snacked” on throughout the night, and what I had for suhoor… anddd what I then had the next day too ha! I couldn’t get enough, it was so good and keeps really well even when reheated!
I enjoyed the chicken as it was tender and juicy, but the brisket stole the show for me!
We enjoyed the meal so much that we decided to order some beef short ribs for Eid!
The ribs were INCREDIBLY soft and succulent and were cooked to perfection… just look at that smoke ring!
It was in fact the highlight of my Eid meal… sorry Eid biryani!
Overall I can’t recommend the food from London Smokehouse enough! All the meat is ethically reared, it’s of great quality and smoked with patience and love. You can choose from USDA beef which is what I had, or treat yourself to some wagyu! Halal smoked meat is still somewhat of a rarity in London and it’s great to have a company who can deliver a delicious meal straight to your home and even cater for an event! This has been one of my food highlights of the year so far and if you’re a meat lover, I guarantee you will love it!
