I was recently in hibernation mode due to a horrible thing called exams! When they were finally over, all I wanted was a big plate of warm juicy joojeh and buttery, fluffy saffron rice… AKA comfort food! My love for Persian food was still growing strong and I was still on the hunt for the best Persian restaurant in London. My friends and I decided to go to Pardis on Connaught Street, as it’s a short walk away from Marble Arch and we wanted to go to Winter Wonderland after.
Pardis is pretty small inside, but it’s cute and cosy. They have a downstairs area too which is quite dingy and cold so if you’re ever booking a table, be sure to ask to be seated upstairs!
WHAT WE ORDERED:
JOOJEH (£12.50)
I got my usual order – joojeh! Pardis’ take on the joojeh was not the best in my opinion. The meat was tender, but It lacked juiciness and the usual zingy flavour that I love.
I brought my expert Persian food loving friend with me and she pointed out that the rice was not as fluffy as it should be, and I couldn’t agree more.
KOOBIDEH (£11)
Koobideh is fabulous, would’t you agree? It’s juicy, full of flavour and completely heart-warming. The look on my friend Raya’s face when she took her first bite, unfortunately said the complete opposite. The koobideh was lacklustre. It was a bit too bland for our liking and we wish it had more seasoning.
Although we didn’t order much from Pardis, we ordered two classic dishes that should be executed well at any Persian restaurant. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the restaurant and perhaps they were having an off day, but unfortunately we left feeling pretty underwhelmed.
