Girls are so extra when it comes to birthdays. We have about 5 birthday dinners, a whole week of celebrations and have to take a zillion Insta worthy pictures to prove it even happened. Guys on the other hand, don’t care lol! Take my brother for example… his idea of a perfect birthday dinner would be at Nando’s! Well… that wouldn’t cut it for me!
It’s my birthday on Monday and celebrations have already begun! I wanted to go somewhere exciting, somewhere different and somewhere with excellent food! I stumbled across a great looking restaurant almost a whole year ago and I’ve been saving it for a special occasion. It’s called Zelman and it’s a steakhouse located on the 5th floor of Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge.
Zelman in Harvey Nichols offer quite a few halal options that are clearly marked on their menu. They serve up steaks per 100g.
My friends and I decided to get a range to share so we could taste them all. They arrived juicy and pink and we couldn’t wait to tuck in…
PICANHA (£7 per 100g)
Our friendly waiter explained all the options to us and highly recommended the picanha. It was the cheapest option and in my opinion it was the most delicious! It had an incredibly tender and juicy centre, it was cooked perfectly and had a great fat to meat ratio. Ahhh the fattt…. it just melted in your mouth and overall it had a punchy, buttery flavour!
FILLET (£12 per 100g)
The fillet was more dense and beefy, and had a perfect charred crust that teased all of your tastebuds. It was cooked to a juicy pink and was seasoned with the right amount of salt. Having said that, it didn’t pack in as much flavour as the picanha.
DIRTY STEAK (£36 for 400g)
The dirty steak is given it’s name as it is cooked straight on the chargrill. It had a great smoky touch and crust, although I would have liked this one to have been a little more salty. Just like the other two steaks it was succulent and delicious, but it’s more chewy and dense!
TRIPLE COOKED CHIPS (£4.50)
The triple cooked chips were nothing out of the ordinary, but were nice and crisp.
SRIRACHA MAYO (£1)
I love sriracha sauce so I knew I’d love Zelman’s sriracha mayo! It was creamy and had a good kick to it!

CHIMICHURRI (£1)
You can’t go wrong with this classic, fresh sauce to accompany your steak (and your chips too)!
Overall we paid just over £20 each for an incredibly delicious meal, with really great service. I was really impressed with the food and how friendly the staff were. They were welcoming, patient, very knowledgable about halal food and were super helpful. Zelman easily serve some of the best halal steaks in London and the price is very just! I had a great start to my birthday weekend and I can’t wait to return!
